FORMALS IN MÉXICO CITY by Ricardo Quintana

Such an honor to work with Viri and Ricardo for their engagements in NYC and later in Mexico City for bridals and Temple Ceremony. Mexico City is such a wonderful place to take pictures, we started in this little neighborhood with colonial architecture and then follow to the magnificent Chapultepec Park in the heart of Mexico City. Mexico Temple is such a statement to Mexico’s History, beautiful landmark.

CHICAGO DOWNTOWN by Ricardo Quintana

This was the third time for me doing this tour, I just love the city of Chicago. Seeing it through my lens with Gabo and Jada was so much fun. We had a moody day with a bit of rain, despise that, we visited some of the landmarks of the city and, made a quick stop to get some burgers! I hope you can get a vibe of one of my favorite cities in USA.

ELOPEMENT IN SALT FLATS, UT by Ricardo Quintana

My best friend eloped! Chill people, this was last December, pre covid-19.

Victor and Heidi planned something intimate in one of the most beautiful places in Utah. I photograph most of it and my good friend Tache photographed while I perform the ceremony. This was literally me being a sort of wedding planner. I definitely value so much wedding planners, floral designers, officials, catering and decoration.

The ceremony was so special and unique, unforgettable moments for life.

Suggested song “Can’t Help Falling in Love” version of Kina Grannis.

“The love of my life and I decided to do away with a formal ceremony. Some may ask why. Simply put, when you know that you’re meant for each other, you move forward. The rest of the world can wait. Eloping was our way of celebrating our love in a simple, elegant and more than anything — the most memorable way. Fairytale ceremonies can also be elopements and it allowed us to celebrate our love in two parts: the first, for us and our closest friends and loved ones, and the second for everyone else who desired to celebrate our love.”

FORMALS DEAD HORSE POINT, UT by Ricardo Quintana

It was so much fun to go to Dead Horse Point with Summer and Bobbie, it wasn’t just about posing in front of the camera in an epic place. It was about them, their story and how well we bonded and share. Road trips to shoot somewhere meaningful or epic are a whole experience that I love having with my clients.

Bobbie for the first time in years wore a dress, that made me feel so honored and humble to document that moment. The only think I wanted for this shoot was empowered their love, using this majestic views. By the end of it, we got those beautiful blues and pinks that I love so much and, brought some real intimate moments.

Suggested song “Barefoot in the Park” by James Blake and Rosalia.

“A ray of God fell in your eyes and it melted my heart.”

BROOKLYN SUNRISE, NYC by Ricardo Quintana

I met Ricardo a couple of years ago, I took his graduation pictures for BYU . After that, we didn’t really keep in touch, until last year that I needed some shelter for some nights that I couldn’t find an affordable place to stay in NYC for a couple nights. Ricardo DM me over instagram offering his place for me to stay. At that time I was meeting a friend and shooting for New York fashion week, plus, I had a super important meeting with clients for another wedding in NYC. He was a lifesaver, we got to talk more about his work and life. He mentioned his girlfriend back then and, tells me that we might be talking in the future for engagement pictures and possibly the wedding.

When he finally got engage, btw,the guys got engage in Santorini … Yep. Ricardo contacted me for engagement pictures in NYC, I was so excited to travel over there again and have a half day experience with them in this beautiful city.

We decided to start at sunrise in the Dumbo area in Brooklyn and then in the Brooklyn bridge. After that, we finished the shoot in the Bethesda Terrace in Central Park, both iconic and beautiful locations.

Last year, I finally had the chance to really get into phot-shoots who were not so much about the 1-2 hours shoot. Furthermore, is about the experience, experiencing the location, telling a story and making my clients comfortable enough to feel themselves. The day before this shoot, we went out shopping and picked their outfits and were able to familiarize with each other, plus talking about styling in a way that wasn’t intimidating but can help you feel more confident.

COLONIAL HOUSE SANTIAGO, CH by Ricardo Quintana

Met this fabulous human being last time I went to Santiago, Chile. This french men was a delight to work with, you can see him everywhere in ads in Chile and, in a popular music video. We were suppose to do a couple editorials but the other model never came. So, naturally we came up with a concept of waiting and being stood up.

GAY INDIAN WEDDING, CHICAGO by Ricardo Quintana

Finally I get to post this amazing wedding full of color and incredible outfits. Only the Grooms had six outfit changes, YES, six outfit changes.

I was so fortunate to have been contacted by Colin and Andrew for their wedding Indian style in Chicago, a very cool mix of cultures from Indian - American traditions. It was so great working with them and feel instantly welcome by everyone, I met so many fun and cool people during that great weekend in Chicago. Below, there is a description of Friday and Saturday, Sunday we did groom pictures in downtown Chicago.

Suggested song for this post Banno re banno meri chali Sasural Ko.

Haldi/Roce - is a fun ceremony in which a paste of ”Haldi” i.e. turmeric having medicinal values (antiseptic and cosmetic properties), sandalwood paste and, coconut milk (representing the holy spirit and also used to get glow on the face) is applied on the groom’s face and body.

Mehndi (Henna) - On the previous evening of the wedding Henna is applied on the hands and feet of the couple. Henna is a powerful medicinal herb that can prevent stress as it cools the body and keeps the nerves from becoming tense.

Alma che Jevon – Vegetarian lunch that begins with prayer and thanksgiving. Remembering the departed souls and asking for peace at home and blessing from the elders in the family. Served with a desert called Von (made from lentils /tapioca balls/cashew nuts) made specially for the meal. Food is served on banana leaf or dried leaf plate.

Sangeet - Night before the wedding to drink, lots of dance! This was so much fun, I learn some moves and marveled by the groom’s talented friends.

Saturday

Wedding ceremony – customized wedding ceremony - Entry of groom with lamps, then a readings from scriptures and blessing from parents taking vows and pheras (seven rounds around fire).

Formal Reception - dinner, speeches and dance.
